Cut Throat Champ Jake Nauracy Set to Fight at Bellator 60
February 21st, 2012
There’s something about a handlebar mustache that’s both diabolical and comic. Maybe it’s the old-timey image of Stalin scheming while twisting his evil handlebars, or maybe it’s the modern way they’re portrayed. The cartoon image that everyone draws on their fingers seems like the type of ridiculous thing you’d do on a first date.
Even the name itself triggers a weird kaleidoscope of upper lips. Wario, Roosevelt, Rollie Fingers, Franz Ferdinand Archduke of Austria-Este … it doesn’t matter who’s sporting one. Both sides of the coin seem to be able to break bread over a tin of mustache wax. Presidents have primped them, revolutionaries have curled them, pitchers have won bets growing them, and now a young MMA fighter has decided to join the club.
Jake Nauracy is making his professional debut at Bellator 60 in March, and more importantly, he’s growing a handlebar stache. Or he was (I think a child just cried somewhere). Jake isn’t a typical fighter or at least the stereotypical fighter. His interests are varied, his stache curls (or did), and he digs sushi. We sat down with the young fighter to talk about his trainer and mentor Miguel Torres, dorky video games and the meaning of life (fbgm).

Babes & Brawls X Results
February 14th, 2012
Babes and Brawls X might have come during one of the coldest nights of the year, but that didn’t stop a packed crowd from coming out last Saturday night to enjoy some beautiful ladies and an excellent night of fights.
The stripper poles stretch from the ceiling to the floor, and the girls are already taking shots. Some of them are in lingerie, some are in short dresses, some have laced leather running up their backs, while others twirl around stripper poles in g-strings. Even in an environment that puts all the attention squarely on them, all of the girls at Atlantis Gentlemen’s Club were forced to share the stage with a cage on Saturday night.

Invasion Aurora Results
January 31th, 2012
CutThroat MMA Invasion took place on Friday January 27th at La Sierra Banquet Hall in Aurora, Illinois just outside of downtown Chicago. The night of amateur fights action saw two Muay Thai fights and eight mixed martial arts bouts. Headlining the night of action were two title fights as David Hammons taking on Eddie Castillo for the heavyweight title and Sam Ferguson going to battle with Ryan Kirwan for the vacant middleweight title.
Kicking off the night of action were two Muay Thai bouts. Axel Mendez needed just over a minute to dispose of Mike Girton. Mendez came out with a big leg kick, but Girton countered with some good jabs and a hook. Mendez returned the favor landing a big combo that forced the fighters to clinch. Good knee work by both fighters before separating at which point Mendez unloaded a barrage of attacks. Girton went down but was able to get up within the ten count. Mendez again swarmed starting with a big body kick, followed by body punches and a head kick that sent Girton down again. He was unable to stand by the ten count and Mendez was announced the winner.

January 20th, 2012
Jeff’s right lung collapsed a week after he got to the hospital. It now randomly fills with mucus and chokes off his air supply, and makes it necessary for him to be hooked up to a ventilator at all times. He hasn’t been able to breathe on his own since December 24th, and doctors had to perform a tracheotomy to help assist Jeff breathe. Jeff’s life now runs through a twisting series of plastic tubes that snake in and around his skin. His body has been in a hospital bed for over a month and he’s having to deal with the constant assault of pressure, friction, and sheering that are starting to break down parts of his skin and create open wounds and bedsores.

Brawl @ Bourbon St. Results
January 19th, 2012
Wednesday is a weird night to get drunk. It’s that spur-of-the-moment instant release of serotonin that feels amazing at midnight, but bits you like a bear trap early the next day. It’s hard, fast living, and that feeling pervaded the atmosphere at Bourbon Street last night. The Brawl at Bourbon Street came and went, and all we’re left with is hazy memories of knockouts and a 60-year-old cop choking out a whale with tattoos.
Here’s a breakdown of the Fight of the Night, along with our quotes of the night and a quick rundown of last night’s action.

Interview with Middleweight Title Fight Contender
Sam Ferguson
January 12th, 2012
Sam Ferguson wakes up and heads out to the gym. He trains and coaches, that’s all he does. He lives with two different Carlson Gracie fighters, and he spends his whole day at the Carlson Gracie gym. His life revolves around the cage, and that’s how the Champaign native wants it.
He came to Carlson Gracie after he lost his passion for football, and he’s taken to the camaraderie of the gym. He socializes with other fighters outside of training, and he rocks out at Alice Cooper and Hank III concerts with his coaches. Moving away from central Illinois has taken Ferguson out of his element, but the gym has been a respite for the young fighter, and the bonds he’s made from the gym have helped fuel his obsession for MMA.
Ferguson is on the main card for Invasion Aurora later this month, and we sat down with him to talk about life downstate, his fighting style, and his passion for MMA.

Tom Shoaff Looks to Stay Undefeated
November 30th, 2011
At first glance, Tom Shoaff doesn’t look like he punches people for a living. The grey pea coat and button-up might deceive the casual onlooker, but a closer look paints a different picture. The small bruises around the eye, the tattoos on the neck and wrist, the purple stuff (we assume is a recovery drink) that he carries around in an empty water gallon, all give the impression that he can knock motherf*ckers out.
Ok, so none of that stuff really gives us any indication that Tom Shoaff can knockout people, but sitting down and hearing Shoaff passionately talk about what he loves leaves us with little doubt where this kid’s heart lies.

Fight Results From Brawl @ Bourbon St.
November 21st, 2011
Waitresses walked around with shots of whiskey and Jägermeister, men double fisted beers, and halter tops were as numerous as Hester jerseys and Sox gear. But in the middle of all the Friday night euphoria stood a cage.
The Brawl at Bourbon Street was held at its usual location in Merrionette Park, and the event was packed. Alcohol flowed freely, lights and hip hop beats bounced around the cavernous space, and spectators were treated to some great MMA action. The fights were as diverse as they were entertaining, with huge left hooks, rear naked chokes, knockouts, and a few controversies.

Amateur Fighter Looks to Move Past Personal Demons
November 11th, 2011
Some amateur fighters are motivated to fight by dreams of glory, some fight as a release from the daily grind of their jobs, and others just want to hit people. Amateur fighter Tim Frain will be fighting for something far more personal, the memory of his recently deceased father.
The 40-year-old Frain, who works at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers, will step into the ring for the first time on December 2nd for the upcoming Invasion 4 fight in Aurora, IL.

Fight Results From Babes & Brawls 9
November 7th, 2011
The Atlantis Gentlemen's Club in Ford Heights, IL was the host to Cutthroat's Babes and Brawls 9. The main event was for the vacant Cutthroat Light Heavyweight Championship between the Academy of Self Defense's Paul Amos versus Patriot Grappling's Mike O'Connor. O'Connor was able to control the pace of the fight, even when he was taken down by Amos. O'Connor was the busier fighter, working submission attempts, which prevented the powerful Amos from doing any damage when he was in the top position. Early in the first round it appeared Amos's strength would be a factor, as he was able to just push O'Connor away while in the clinch, but the relentless O'Connor kept pushing the pace.

Fight Results From Clash at the Kilt 2
October 18th, 2011
The first fight was a Muay Thai fight between Dennis Sherman and Axel Mendez (Carlson Gracie). In the first round it appeared that Sherman tried to complain to referee Jay Estrada about a low knee, however there wasn't any way Estrada could of seen it if it did land. Mendez unloaded with a flurry of punches and landed a nice head kick sending Sherman to the ground. Estrada stopped the contest and it was a good showing by Mendez.

More MMA Interviewed Patriot Boxing's Dan Ortiz to discuss his upcoming lightweight title shot at Invasion 3
September 26th, 2011
Cut Throat MMA's Invasion 3 will be held on October 7th, 2011 at La Sierra,2121 E New York St., in Aurora, IL. This will be one of the best shows of the year featuring three championship bouts. Not many organizations offer this many title fights on one night and I consider this a must see card!
The lightweight title will be on the line as challenger Dan Ortiz takes on champion Eric Rasmussen. Ortiz is coming off his quick submission victory over Chad Fredericksen. Eric Rasmussen looks to defend his title for the first time, after knocking out Rich Molina to capture the belt. Both of these fighters have outstanding standup and it will be interesting to see if Ortiz will try to keep it standing or try to take him down, like he did to Fredericksen in his last fight. This fight has the potential for fight of the night and I doubt that it will go to the judges. I had the chance to speak to Dan Ortiz to get his thoughts on this fight.
