Fight Results From Babe and Brawls 9

November 7th, 2011

The Atlantis Gentlemen's Club in Ford Heights, IL was the host to Cutthroat's Babes and Brawls 9. The main event was for the vacant Cutthroat Light Heavyweight Championship between the Academy of Self Defense's Paul Amos versus Patriot Grappling's Mike O'Connor. O'Connor was able to control the pace of the fight, even when he was taken down by Amos. O'Connor was the busier fighter, working submission attempts, which prevented the powerful Amos from doing any damage when he was in the top position. Early in the first round it appeared Amos's strength would be a factor, as he was able to just push O'Connor away while in the clinch, but the relentless O'Connor kept pushing the pace. O'Connor was able to take Amos down in every round. O'Connor clearly he won the fight and was rewarded with the championship belt. In the post fight interview O'Connor stated that he wanted to drop down to 185 and take a run at that title belt as well.

In the 145 pound division, Hit Kickboxing and Henson Jiu Jitsu's Greg Tigner was victorious again, this time over the Boneyard's Dennis Fisher. Tigner sent Fisher to the canvas with a punch early, however Fisher was up quickly with a takedown on Tigner. Tigner immediately went to work attempting a triangle choke, Fisher tried to slam out of it, however Tigner would not let go. Once again Fisher stood up, to try to slam Tigner but Tigner grabbed the arm and secured a tight armbar as the referee stopped the contest. Fisher contested the stoppage, which may of been early but at the amateur level, the fighters health is the top priority. After the bout, Tigner expressed interest in a title bout with Team One's Jason Ignacek. Match maker Cutthroat Tony announced that if Tigner can get 100 likes on a facebook post stating he deserves a title shot, he would receive his wish. If that bout is finalized it has fight of the night written all over it.

The fight of the night goes to Ewan Niven and Vaughn Camacho. Niven worked knees to the body in the clinch early and after Camacho pulled guard, Niven was able to land several punches before advancing to mount. The early damage and position control earned the first round to Niven. Camacho was able to use his hands to keep Niven at bay in the second round. Camacho used good movement to avoid the clinch in the round and this fight was even after two. The third round belonged to Niven as he took Camacho down early and controlled the round doing some damage with hammer fists. Camacho tried to say busy from the bottom attempting an ooma-plata and an armbar as the fight ended. Good fight between two well matched up fighters.

The knock out of the night was technically a TKO but Carlson Gracie fighter Julio McKinney landed some devastating shots while posturing over the Boneyard's Jason Crose getting the first round victory. Crose was obviously hurt by the blows but was checked on by the doctor and soon rose to his feet, receiving a good hand from the crowd.

The submission of the night also goes to a Carlson Gracie fighter, as Bryan Koza defeated Trevor Adezko by a gogo-plata in the first round. Koza set up the submission by pulling guard while trying to finish Adezko with a guillotine, after Adezko escaped Koza went right to work securing the uncommon submission finish.

Another submission finish worth noting was Patriot's Brandon VanderMeesch's Von Flue choke, over Anthony Corter in the second round. VanderMeesch quickly sunk his shoulder into his opponents neck and Corter was forced to tap before being put to sleep.
